U.S. stocks trading lower as debt ceiling talks, inflation data loom

U.S. stocks keep nudging lower early afternoon Tuesday, with cautious investors digesting more earnings reports and new lending data ahead of White House negotiations later Tuesday on the debt ceiling and inflation data Wednesday.

How stocks are trading

On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA fell 56 points, or 0.17%, to 33619, the S&P 500 SPX increased 2 points, or 0.05%, to 4138, and the Nasdaq Composite COMP gained 22 points, or 0.18%, to 12257.
