U.S. stocks open lower after Israel-Hamas war erupts

U.S. stocks opened lower Monday, as investors monitor the Israel-Hamas war that broke out over the weekend. The Dow Jones Industrial Average

was down 0.3% soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500
SPX,
+0.55%
fell 0.4% and the Nasdaq Composite

+0.33%
dropped 0.8%, according to FactSet data, at last check. Israel’s government formally declared war on Sunday after a surprise attack by Hamas. While the U.S. stock market is open Monday as the country celebrates Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the bond market is closed for the federal holiday.
