Fifty S&P 500 companies record best day of the year

A 10th of the companies in the S&P 500 index recorded their best day of the year in terms of percentage change on Tuesday, as U.S. stocks rallied after data showed U.S. inflation was flat in October.

shares rose 5%, the best day since Oct. 4, 2022, according to Dow Jones Market Data. Bank of America’s

+5.49%
stock gained 5.5%, the best one-day performance since Oct. 17, 2022. Shares of BlackRock
BLK,
+5.43%
and Home Depot
HD,
+5.40%
advanced 5.4% and 5.4%, respectively, the largest one-day percentage gain since Nov. 10, 2022.

U.S. stocks ended sharply higher on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average
DJIA
up 490 points, or 1.4%. The S&P 500
SPX
gained 1.9% and the Nasdaq Composite
COMP
advanced 2.4%.
