Indian power company NTPC’s fourth-quarter net profit fell 5.9% as higher expenses offset a rise in sales while total taxes increased.

Profit in the quarter ended March 31 fell to 48.61 billion rupees ($586.8 million) from INR51.67 billion a year earlier, the New Delhi-based company said late Friday.

Quarterly revenue from operations rose 19% to INR442.53 billion as gross power generation, which makes up the bulk of revenue, rose 7.6% to 89.67 billion units.

Total expenses expanded 22% from a year ago to INR390.19 billion, while total tax rose 41% over the same period.
