J.B. Hunt to Buy 13 Nikola Vehicles

By Ben Glickman

J.B. Hunt Transport Services will buy 13 vehicles from electric truck maker Nikola, including three hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.

The Lowell, Ark.-based shipping company said its subsidiary J.B. Hunt Transport would buy 10 heavy-duty battery-electric vehicles from Nikola along with the three hydrogen-powered vehicles. The companies said the order would be delivered next month.

Nikola will supply the hydrogen for the vehicles and infrastructure through its HYLA subsidiary. The companies said the trucks would be located in the Los Angeles area and in Phoenix, where Nikola is headquartered, as well as in other locations along J.B. Hunt’s major shipping routes.

J.B. Hunt said the purchase supported its goal of cutting its carbon emission intensity by 32% by 2034, compared to 2019 levels. The company began using electric trucks in its fleet this year.

Nikola shares rose 7.1% to $2.43 in pre-market trading.
