FTC proposes tighter privacy sanctions for Facebook

The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday sought to ban Meta Platforms Inc.’s Facebook from monetizing the data of children, claiming the social-media giant violated a 2020 privacy order.

Specifically, the FTC claimed Facebook META misled parents about how much control they had over who their children had contact with in the Messenger Kids app. The agency also alleges Facebook was deceptive about how much access app developers had to users’ private data.
