Communications Services Up as Disney, Charter Reach Compromise — Communications Services Roundup

Communications services companies rose sharply after the resolution of a closely watched dispute over carriage fees.

Walt Disney and Charter Communications reached an agreement that will restore popular channels, including ESPN and ABC, to the cable operator’s nearly 15 million Spectrum subscribers, ending a blackout that lasted for more than a week, and ensuring that millions of households will receive ESPN’s coverage of the first “Monday Night Football” game of the season.

Analysts at brokerage Benchmark said the deal dispensed with “archaic” structures because Charter agreed to pay higher fees for linear television carriage in exchange for Disney+ streaming access for some Spectrum customers.
