OTTAWA–An advance estimate of Canadian wholesale trade indicates sales continued to recover in July.
Statistics Canada on Friday said advance results for wholesale sales point to an increase of 1.4% for the month, a figure which excludes petroleum, petroleum products, other hydrocarbons and oilseed and grain. The statistics agency continues to collect data for July and said the early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than the regular monthly figure it releases.
The estimates show that the rise in July was led by motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts and accessories, and building materials and supplies, which were up 5.8% and 3.5%, respectively.
Earlier this month, Statistics Canada reported that wholesale sales excluding petroleum, oilseed and grain fell 2.8% in June from the month before on a seasonally adjusted basis to 80.48 billion Canadian dollars, the equivalent of $59.25 billion.
The data agency is scheduled to release official June trade data Sept. 14.
