Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the rose 0.90%.

The best performers of the session on the were Zip Co Ltd (ASX:), which rose 10.00% or 0.03 points to trade at 0.33 at the close. Meanwhile, Appen Ltd (ASX:) added 8.89% or 0.08 points to end at 0.98 and Cromwell Property Group (ASX:) was up 7.69% or 0.03 points to 0.35 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Origin Energy Ltd (ASX:), which fell 6.62% or 0.60 points to trade at 8.47 at the close. Amcor PLC (ASX:) declined 2.98% or 0.42 points to end at 13.66 and Santos Ltd (ASX:) was down 2.97% or 0.23 points to 7.51.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 741 to 432 and 355 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 8.06% to 12.05.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 4.85 to $1,992.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.26% or 1.01 to hit $81.45 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.19% or 1.01 to trade at $85.64 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.56% to 0.64, while AUD/JPY rose 0.17% to 96.69.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.47% at 106.21.
