Brazil Current Account Widened in July to $3.6B

S O PAULO–Brazil recorded a current-account deficit of $3.6 billion in July, from a deficit of $843 million in June, the central bank said Friday.

The 12-month current-account deficit reached $51.1 billion in July, from a revised $52.7 billion the month before, the bank said.

The 12-month current-account deficit was equal to 2.52% of gross domestic product, versus a revised 2.64% of GDP for the previous month.

Net foreign direct investment reached $4.2 billion in July, up from $1.9 billion in June, the bank said. FDI reached $71.7 billion for the 12 months through July, compared with $80 billion in the 12 months through June.
