Twitter Defends ‘Extreme Measures’ to Remove Spam and Bots

Twitter defended its decision to limit the amount of posts users can view a day on Tuesday, citing “bots and other bad actors that are harming the platform.”

Twitter said in a blog post on Tuesday that it has taken “extreme measures” to remove spam and bots from the app.

“At a high level, we are working to prevent these accounts from scraping people’s public Twitter data to build AI models and manipulating people and conversation on the platform in various ways,” the company said.

Musk tweeted on Friday that there has been “extreme levels of data scraping,” and “almost every company doing AI, from start-ups to some of the biggest corporations on Earth, was scraping vast amounts of data.” The purpose of the limitations on the platform is to ensure the legitimacy of the app’s user base, detect bots, and remove them from the app, Twitter said Tuesday.
