Disney’s ‘Elemental’ and Warner Bros’ ‘The Flash’ Disappoint on Opening Weekend

Two of Hollywood’s biggest studios released blockbuster movies over Father’s Day weekend, but both disappointed.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s
(ticker:WBD) big budget film ‘The Flash’, the DC superhero’s first-ever stand-alone feature film, brought in $55.1 million for its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada, according to industry experts Comscore.  It cost around $200 million to produce and failed to match the $67 million that Warner Bros’ Black Adam superhero movie had achieved last year.

Disney’s (DIS) ‘Elemental’, made by Pixar, cost a similar amount to produce but the animation only managed $29.5 million domestically for its opening weekend. In terms of comparison back in 2016 when ‘Finding Dory,’ the sequel to ‘Finding Nemo,’ was released it had grossed $139 million on its opening weekend, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Elemental is on course for the second-lowest opening in Pixar’s history for a widely released film, according to CNBC.
