India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.21%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the rose 0.21% to hit a new 6-months high, while the index added 0.14%.

The best performers of the session on the were Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:), which rose 5.20% or 42.60 points to trade at 862.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:) added 2.42% or 42.05 points to end at 1,780.00 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:) was up 2.38% or 2.65 points to 113.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:), which fell 0.98% or 69.90 points to trade at 7,096.85 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:) declined 0.97% or 13.00 points to end at 1,323.25 and Axis Bank Ltd (NS:) was down 0.87% or 8.55 points to 977.30.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:) which rose 2.39% to 113.75, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which was up 1.65% to settle at 246.45 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.28% to close at 2,552.60.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 0.98% to 1,322.90 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:) which lost 0.98% to settle at 7,096.10 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 0.88% to 977.75 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1053 to 882 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1853 rose and 1606 declined, while 121 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 5.20% or 42.60 to 862.50.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.47% to 11.16.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.15% or 2.90 to $1,961.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.43% or 0.99 to hit $70.41 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.48% or 1.10 to trade at $75.39 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.24% to 82.09, while EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 88.70.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 102.73.
